AI Can Build You a Website. Do You Still Need an Agency?

AI has made building a website cheaper than ever. An honest look at what it does well — and the parts that still need a person who is accountable.

An honest opening: if all you need is a page that explains what you do, building it yourself with AI is a perfectly reasonable choice. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

But "it exists" and "it works, and someone is accountable for it" are different things. So let's separate them.

What AI already does well

  • A clean, presentable layout

  • A first draft of the copy, from material you already have

  • Images, plus a first pass at titles and meta descriptions

  • A simple form, a WhatsApp link, basic analytics

Two years ago this was paid work. Today it is a few prompts and a few hours.

What AI cannot do: the decisions

It will not ask you:

  • What is the one action you want a visitor to take — enquire, book, buy, or call?

  • How will your team update the site later, and who do they ask?

  • Who takes it over in three years, and what gets handed across?

Without answers, a site ends up good-looking and useless. Visitors arrive, cannot tell what to do next, and leave.

When something breaks, who carries it?

A form that quietly stops delivering enquiries. A payment that does not reconcile. Pages Google never indexes. A site that gets compromised, or a client's data that leaks. AI will not carry any of that — your customer comes to you.

Running it yourself is a legitimate choice, as long as you know where the risk sits and whether you have the time to handle it.

The cost nobody counts: your time

"I'll save a few thousand dollars doing it myself" is true. It also usually costs 20–60 hours: learning the tool, fighting the layout, fixing mobile, sorting out domain and email.

The real question is what those hours are worth spent on the business instead.

Do it yourself when…

  • It is a one-off campaign page, a personal profile, or pure presentation

  • The budget is near zero and you are fine rebuilding it in six months

  • You have the time and actually want to learn

Hire someone when…

  • Money moves — payments, bookings and orders, where a mistake is lost revenue

  • Personal data is involved — privacy and liability are not DIY territory

  • You need to be found — SEO, AI search citations and ad landing pages are a discipline, not a checkbox

  • Someone else has to take over — staff change, redesigns, handovers

If you do hire, check three things

  • The price is public — you should not have to ask to find out whether you can afford it

  • The assets are yours — domain, hosting, source code, transferable at any time

  • No lock-in contract — you can leave, or stay because the work is good, not because leaving is hard

Our price list is public on the pricing page. If you want a straight answer on whether your project is DIY territory or worth hiring for, book a 30-minute call — if it is not a fit, we will tell you not to hire us.
